integral problem. please help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\left| x \right| +\left| y \right|=1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have to calculate the area bounded by that eq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i use polar coordinates?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

i wouldnt use polar coord...draw the region and you will see the symmetry |dw:1377594788309:dw| \[A = 4 \int\limits_0 ^1 1-x dx\]

As @dumbcow proposes, best thing is to draw it (for 2D integral problems is quite straightforward). Note that after solving the integral you can check the results (after all is a square with side=square root of 2)
