what does this symbol mean? ∅

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It a zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with a line through it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

usually people put the line to help others no its a zero and not an O, i do that all the time but hold on i think in math its different

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i'm trying to figure out lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it, in math it usally means that something has no solution or an empty set, you get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you probably has a problem to solve and if it has no solution the zero with the line would be your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm doing absolute value equations and i got that 0 so i didn't know but thank you :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your welcome :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

its a symbol for an empty set; or no solution as amanda points out

OpenStudy (amistre64):

think of it as: "not even zero" is a solution
