The colonists were unhappy with British taxation because they had no representation in parliament. They had no way to stand up or oppose these taxes that had been forced upon them. Eventually, this led to America gaining independence from British rule.

They feared that if they obliged to paying such taxes, parliament would only impose more upon them.
