Could someone show me how to simplify (5m - 2) - (3m - 2n + 5)?

first take out parenthesis as follows: 5m-2-3m+2n-5 now combine like terms

Okay, simplify: \[(16x ^{4} - 4x ^{3} + 8x - 7) - (5x ^{4} + 4x ^{2} - 8x +12)\]

you have to distribute that - to the 5 4 -8 and 12

The way i think about adding like terms is like normal addint 123+341 123 + 341 464 ----------- as you can see we have hundred, tens and ones. We cant add the tens to the ones or hundreds to tens... you get the idea. They have to be same. In algebra you have powers 1x^2+2x+3 + 3x^2+4x+1 1x^2+2x+3 +3x^2+4x+1 4x^2+6x+4 I see them as x^2s, xs and constants the one without an x :). It is like you would see hundreds, tens, and ones Also when you do it with algebraic like terms there is no carrying over it just stands as is. Example: 19 +12 31 vs alebra 9x +2x 11x no carry over
