I dont believe it is 2. I have never heard of the South becoming dependent on sole tobacco crops. Business was booming back then, and anyone who was smart new to invest in in more farming buildings to increase crop growth.

You're right but you're forgetting that, Tobacco and Cotton made up 90% of the crops grown in the South.
