Okay. There are two concepts. Perimeter and area. The perimeter is the area outside of an object. The area is the measurements INSIDE the object. If you have a rectangle with a width of 7 and a length of 4. It'll look something like this. |dw:1377642572424:dw| We know that each side is equal on top and bottom, so we can say 7 + 7, and each length is equal, so 4 + 4. Add it all together and we get 7 + 7 + 4 + 4 = 22.
