True or False The cells in the human body have an average life cycle of about 16 to 24 hours.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's true but I'm not certain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree, I think it's true. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK9876/ "A typical eukaryotic cell cycle is illustrated by human cells in culture, which divide approximately every 24 hours."

thanks for the help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Np :)

thomaster (thomaster):

Totally depends on the type of cell... lymphocytes live longer than a year, red blood cells live 4 months Bone cells can liver up to 35 years

thomaster (thomaster):

So I would say false, most cells live longer than 2 days

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the question should have been more specific on what type of cell, then. There are countless different types of cells each with different lifespans: http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-the-average-cell-life-span.htm
