0.014 x 10^2 in scientific notation

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Hello @jshinkonis Welcome to openstudy :) Do you know how to start off?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think so. i moved my decimal 2 places to the right and came up with 1.4x10^-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[0.014 X 10^2\] is scientific notation. The \[10^x\] means to move the decimal 1 place to the right X times. \[0.014 X 10^2\] becomes \[1.4\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks, would that be the same as 1.4x10^0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but there's no point in writing that, as 10^0 = 1 and 1.4 X 1 = 1.4
