Why are legal and ethical rights important for patients and medical providers?
There are things doctors can/cannot do. There are info they cannot share with anyone else unless they have your consent.
Oh, I see. Are there any other reasons legal and ethical rights are important? Also, thank you.
They deal with life and death of patients.
Well for one, they're important because privacy encourages trust. oOKawaiiOo says that doctors aren't allowed to share our information with anyone else, unless we give them permission to share that information. That's true. And very important. Doctors promise to keep our secrets safe. It's their legal obligation. And for that, we ideally trust them more. We can feel more comfortable with telling them all the details relating to our physical health. When doctors make diagnoses and prescribe medication, it's important for them to hear as many details about us, as we can give them. And in order to get these details from us, we would have to trust our doctors. Does that make sense? Legal and ethical rights promote trust, between a doctor and a patient. And this trust helps doctors do their jobs more efficiently.
