Need help with math. Don't want answer just help. Trapezoid question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the length of one base of a trapezoid is 5, the length of the other base is 2x + 7, and the mid segment is 6x-24 , what is the value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am bad at trapezoids. Have you checked Khan Academy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is not on Khan Academy.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well|dw:1377717351802:dw| due to that, we know that the Mid Segment of the trapezoid is 6x-24 rather, darn, I use + in the graph, anyhow so we know that, so we can say that \(\bf \cfrac{base1+base2}{2} = \textit{mid segment} \implies \cfrac{(5) + (2x+7)}{2} = 6x-24\) solve for "x"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much! really helped :)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yw
