Why Ulnal Nerve is called "Funny Bone"????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know how to answer it :P but well ..Here what wikipedia says! The ulnar nerve is trapped between the bone and the overlying skin at this point. This is commonly referred to as bumping one's "funny bone". This name is thought to be a pun, based on the sound resemblance between the name of the bone of the upper arm, the "humerus" and the word "humorous". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulnar_nerve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll do some research then ! This question has made me curious :D ''Funny bone''

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok :)

OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):

I would repeat what ryaan. Its the "strange" feeling you get when you hit that nerve on a table. Strange and funny are interchangeable terms.

I found something! your funny bone isn't actually a bone at all. Running down the inside part of your elbow is a nerve called the ulnar nerve. The ulnar nerve lets your brain know about feelings in your fourth and fifth fingers. It's also one of the nerves that controls some movement of your hand. You get that funny feeling when the ulnar nerve is bumped against the humerus (say: hyoo-muh-rus), the long bone that starts at your elbow and goes up to your shoulder. Tapping your funny bone doesn't do any damage to your elbow, arm, or ulnar nerve. But it sure feels strange! People sometimes mention the funny bone when they talk about their sense of humor. Maybe you've heard someone say that something "really tickled my funny bone." We'll leave you with a joke and hope that it tickles yours: What's a bone in your body that you can never break? Your funny bone! http://kidshealth.org/kid/talk/qa/funny_bone.html Now I don't think anyone would have any answer about this! Read what it says then think about it! Good luck!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i still didn.t get it... whatx that funny/strange feeling ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know what? That was not even given in my books ! I'm in 9th grade! I didn't know about ulnar nerve! All I did is research on google! And I provided you best information that I think that was! Now you're asking the same question again and again! I'm not yet studying about bones! I don't know how to answer it! If anyone has the answer of this then he/she would come and explain you alot better!
