I need help with one problem 5x^2+25x = 5x(x+5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you multiply on the right you also get \(5x^2+25x\) so you are looking at an identity, true for all \(x\)

Can you explain?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Distributive Property:\[\Large a(b+c) \quad=\quad ab+ac\] In your problem \(\Large a\) would be \(\Large 5x\).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but couldn't x also be -5?
