zepdrix (zepdrix):

Have you tried multiplying the brackets? Remember how to FOIL? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can multiply them, I have trouble with the conversions to sin and cos. Seeing it written out would be greatly beneficial

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So when we multiply it all out we get this yes?\[\Large \sin x \color{#CC0033}{\sec x}+ \sin x\color{#3366CF}{\csc x}- \cos x \color{#CC0033}{\sec x}-\cos x \color{#3366CF}{\csc x}\]

zepdrix (zepdrix):

We'll want to apply our conversions to the red and blues.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

\[\Large \color{#3366CF}{\csc x\quad=\quad \frac{1}{\sin x}} \qquad\qquad\qquad \color{#CC0033}{\sec x\quad=\quad \frac{1}{\cos x}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So that gives (Sinx)(1/cosx)+(sinx)(1/sinx)-(cosx)(1/cosx)-(cosx)(1/sinx) ?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

yah that looks right. Sooooo we can simplify those middle terms down really nicely, huh?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

final answer is then tan x- cot x ???

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Yay good job! \c:/
