First, do research on definitions and recorded cases. Then personally, I would study the in depth psychology they have developed on the subject, study the causes, in other words. End with a possible solution to the problem.

There are so many different facets of self harm, that you also may want to pick one to go in depth on, or just briefly touch on all of them. Again if you want any help, I would be glad to. I can get you some good references to look at too

Cutting is a form of self harm. I might actually be able to help you write a report on it if you'd like. I have a lot of friends that do self-harm to themselves so I know quite a bit about that subject. :/

What about being in a relationship with someone that is abusive but you don't want to leave them cause you don't to hurt them???

I'd say that when people are in abusive relationships, they have a very deep emotional attachment to that person which won't allow them to leave the other person.
They don't want to hurt them because they feel as if that person needs them, no matter how badly they hurt them...and at the same time, they have this sad want and need to stay with the person that is abusing them. It's a deep emotional attachment.

exactly very easy to use that as self harm...right??? They are subjecting themselves to this person (the abuser) because the love them but are hurting themselves through it. So self harm.

no thats really not self harm though. self harm is something you physically do to yourself..i would say being with an abusive guy is just putting yourself up for that but not self harm.

Bbent1997, that is very true. I mean, you could look at it as self-harm, but I still see cutting and burning yourself as more of what they are probably looking for on a self-harm report for school.

so reasons on why teens hurt themselves???? Bullying, stress at home,stress at school, stressing out about life. thats pretty much all I have.

Some more reasons are, and they kind of go along with some of what bbent97 said.
Some times people self-harm themselves because all they feel is emotional pain and by hurting themselves physically, it takes their mind off of the emotional pain for a bit and focus on their physical pain. Sometime people self-harm themselves as a punishment to themselves as well...perhaps because they hate themselves or something they have done in the past. It is like a stress reliever for them... Does that make sense?
