9m = -63?

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

just divide by 9 on both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m=7

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

you have -63/9 what is a negative divided by a positive ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused because you add it on one problem but the next you divide? how do you know which one to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i tried adding it but didnt come out right. i didnt know you could divide to.

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

you have 9m = -63 9m means 9 times m, the opposite of multiplication is division so in this case you divide

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok. i get it.

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

if you had a problem like 9m -2 = 16 , then you have subtraction of 2, opposite of subtract is add so in this case you add first and would be 9m -2 + 2 = 16 + 2 (you need to do same procedure on both sides)

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

and by the way the answer is -7 because when dividing a negative with a positive = negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i see what your saying. thank you. :)

OpenStudy (ivettef365):

yw :)
