4.) gene spent ten minutes riding his bicycle to a friend's house. he left his bike there and, with his friend, walked for 15 min to the gym. Gene rides his bicycle 10km/h faster than he walks. if the entire trip covered a distance of 2.75 km, how far is it from his friends house to the gym??

lets put the rate of the walking as say \(r\) to the rate of biking is \(r+10\) now we can use distance equals rate times time \[10(r+10)+15r=2.75\] solve for \(r\)
