16=25+9x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the answer, but I cannot figure out how they got the answer... :/

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

what do you think the first step is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Subtract 25. It would turn into a negative 25.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16=25+9x 16-25 = 9x -9 = 9x x= -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, no it wouldn't be negative, because minus signs mean lots of different things. :p

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

omistone seriously, you didnt even show all the steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I did, what did I miss?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Well the first step 16 - 25 = 9x + 25 - 25 16 - 25 = 9x + 0 16 - 25 = 9x The equality is maintained (both sides remain the same) because you did the same operation to both sides.

Thank you everyone!!! :D It is very greatly appreciated.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, looks like I gave the best answer, @Australopithecus -points to the medal-

OpenStudy (anonymous):
