Find the domain, period, range, and amplitude of the cosine function. y = -6 cos 4x
Do you know the period of cosine?
well i just wanted the answer so i can use it as an example to solve the rest of the problems
I think its 1/2
it asks to use the square root method and the answer in the book shows as {-3, 0)
well u have to know this to figure out the problem. sine and cosine have a period of 2pi. The amplitude is always the # on the outside of the function, which means it has a vertical shift. Now the horizontal shift is affected by the # inside the cosine function. To figure this out you have to divide by 2pi.
i don't mean to be ignorant or rude but it doesn't asks for any of that and in the examples it shows no use of sine and cosine.
I just wanted my answer checked. Domain: all real numbers?
so if you graph just y = cos (x) u will see that the amplitude is 1 and a period of 2pi with a range of [-1,1] and a domain of infinity.
Range is (-6,6)
Yup, ur getting it. now for the period. -2pi < 4x < 2pi solve for x by dividing 4 on both sides.
(-1/2, 1/2)?
pi/2
graph it and see
the graph that I did online is not showing that well. I cant enlarge it Domain all real Period 1/2 range -6,6 amplitude 6
hello??
sorry, YES U GOT IT! Nice job.
If I had a better graph it would have helped
A good graphing calc helps a lot.
thanks alot. I would give a medal but I dont know how lol...im new here
Lolz
