(-3)+n=17 -3 + n = 17 Now just add 3 to both sides.
if it helps to think of it this way, you can rewrite the equation as n-3=17

just do what @Compassionate said to do, or add 3 to both sides on n-3=17 +3 +3 on this equation. The three would be eliminated, and therefore... what would "n" equal?
