Simplify. (2y)^-3

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

(2y)^3 would be 8y^3 But When the power is negative then INVERSE it So (2y)^-3 1/8y^3 Got that? :)

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

2^-1 = 1/2 (ab)^-1 = 1/ab :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why is it not 1/6y^3

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Welcome to openstudy btw :)

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

because the POWER is -3 And it is not MULTIPLIED by that! So 2^3 is NOT equal to 6 but is equal to 2*2*2 = 8 Got that? And yes a warm welcome to openstudy! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):
