can someone explain this to me. Given the equation 7x + 2 = 2 + 5x – 6, use the commutative property to rearrange the terms so that like terms are next to one another. This gives the equation 7x + 2 = 2 – 6 + 5x. Then use the ____________________ to group the like terms. This gives the equation 7x + 2 = (2 – 6) + 5x. Next, combine like terms to get the equation 7x + 2 = –4 + 5x. Use Use the subtraction property of equality to subtract 5x from both sides of the equation. i think its the associative property of addition am i correct?

so you need to find what kind of property it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Commuutative property:In mathematics an operation is commutative if changing the order of the operation does not change the end result.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that what you need?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so just that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question only wants to know the property so yeah thats all it wants.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well if the question is asking what property it is then yes you can write it like this if your teacher is strict 7x + 2 = 2 – 6 + 5x=commutative property

o ok :D
