Don't think I am going to graph it.. but idea isn't too bad.. Take the word problem and translate it to algebra.. You can first establish a base.. in this case. 1980 and 19,000 So, y(x) = m x => 19,000 = m (1980) and => 42,000 = m (2000) This is kinda good.. but we need to find out what m is.. Do you know how to find what m is?

no i am lost i have tried many problems like this and got them all wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.. I will explain if you want to hear.... When you have 2 points on a chart.. you can draw them like so.... (give me a sec)

The money axis can be thought of in the variable "y" and the Year can be labeled as "x" , just for simplicity sake.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get an x and y coordinate, it's simply write in point notation (x,y)

Then, as you fish through your book, there is an equation that you need to use call a point slope equation.. it is basicly for taking 2 points and calculating the slope. Do you know it? or can you find it and type it in for me?
