Write the equation of the line that is parallel to the line y = 2x + 2 and passes through the point (5, 3). A:y = 2x − 7 B: y = −one halfx − 2 C: y = 2x − 2 D: y = −one halfx − 7
The easiest way to do is by using the point-slope equation :) Parallel Lines have the same slope. So find the slope of the line given to you. And we also know a point it should pass through. :D So use the equation => y-y1= m(x-x1) Understood? :)
@MathHater1994 ?
LOL NOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT AT ALL I DONT UNDERSTAND
@AkashdeepDeb
IM NOT GRAPHING
Okay. No probz :) Do you know the point slope form of an equation?
I am not telling you to graph ANYTHING.
The way the question is typed here is how it is i dont have to graph anything i just choose A,B,C,D, But i really dont understand how to do it with out a graph
See the question you typed has said you have a line given already and we have one more point near it. We have to find the equation of a line that is parallel to the line given to us. Got it? Now tell me if you know that form of the line.
No i dont , what i typed is all they gave me in the question
Do you know how to find slope?
ive learned it but ive forgotten how to do Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
Okay. Please go through this for a recap! http://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/linear-equations.html :)
And then follow the instructions I gave. You should get your answer. :)
@AkashdeepDeb is the Answer B?
Why do you think so?
@MathHater1994 ?
noooo sorry about that i just doubled check the answer would be 2x-7
EXCELLENT!! The answer should be y = 2x - 7 :D
Lol thank u soooo much, hopefully you'll be able to help me with my next problem
@AkashdeepDeb
:) Well Yes I will! :) But YOU HAVE TO TRY IT YOURSELF FIRST!! :D
lol ok
