Simplify the following. 1. x/ (x-(1/2)) 2.(x-(1/x))/(x+(1/x)) 3.((25/a)-a/5+a)

OpenStudy (raden):

1# multiply by 2/2 x/(x-(1/2)) * 2/2 = 2x/(2x - 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i got number 1 already, but thanks though. I don't know number 2 and 3.

OpenStudy (raden):

hint : multiply by x/x for number 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer i got was x^2-1/x^2+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that what you got?

OpenStudy (raden):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k thanks, now what about #3?

OpenStudy (raden):

can you give more the parantheses for number 3 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

((25/a)-a)/(5+a)

OpenStudy (raden):

ok, first like number 1 and 2 , multiply by a/a. what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it cancels out the a's. right?

OpenStudy (raden):

yep, but only once

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does the a in (25-a) only get cancelled out?
