Am I remembering how to solve percentage increase right?
Each year, Terrell buys a plane ticket to visit his grandmother for a week. Last year, he paid $130. This year, he paid $143. What was the percent increase in the cost of his plane ticket? Show your work.
that is the question this is my answer: amount of change/original amount = percent of change/100 143/130 = x/100 143 x 100 = 14,300 130 x 1 = 130 so we now have the fraction 14,300 over 130 which reduces to 110 over 1 which is actually just 110. So x = 110. Our percentage increase is 110.
amount of change = (new amount - original amount)
Well, only a 10% increase. Realize that 100% is the old amount of 130. So if youre going to increaseby 100% + 10%, bit much, eh?
so, yes you've got the right "formula" but amt of change is (143-130) and not 143
sorry i was afk
so i solved for the wrong thing?
pasting what you wrote: that is the question this is my answer: amount of change/original amount = percent of change/100 143/130 = x/100 amount of change is (new amount - original amount) = 143-130
i'm supposed to subtract them or what are you trying to say
\[\frac{ 143-130 }{ 130} = \frac{ x }{ 1000 }\]
x/100
13/130 = x/100?
yes
so i would multiply across and add a 1 under 100, no?
and that would be 13k over 130
which reduces to 10 so my answer is 10 percent?
hey they left
(new value - old value) / old value (143 - 130) / 130 = 13/130 = .1 .1 x 100 = 10% your answer is correct...10% increase
thank you all for the help i got it now
