Compute 4659¯0−214¯00. Round the answer appropriately. Express your answer numerically using the proper number of significant figures.
after subtracting, i ended up getting 25190, but since you had to round to the hundreds, my answer came out to be 2520
unfortunately, my answer is incorrect. can anyone tell me what did i do wrong?
In "4659¯0", what does the " \(^-\) " mean?
it's just a bar, meaning it's in the tenths place
so it's like a decimal point?
the bar is on top of the number 9
i guess
4659.0−214.00, is this equivalent to what you have?
answer wise? or questions wise?
question-wise
question*
it has the bar instead of the decimal point
4659.0−214.00=4445 you had 5 sig figs initially, so 4445.0
hmm let me try
there's a hint option. it gives you a question that asks" 4659¯0 has the final significant digit in the tens place and 214¯00 has the final significant digit in the hundreds place. To what place will the final answer be rounded?"
the answer came out to be hundreds
so the answer should be 4450?
if you're keeping the amount of sig figs, it should be 5 sig figs.
the answer doesn't need to be rounded because they're all integers
i got it wrong
but thanks anyway
4450.0 is not the answer?
nope
what is the answer?
i got two more attempts
i see. that's odd, though.
yeah..
maybe it's the bar, i don't know if were interpreting it right.
thanks anyway
sorry, dude. Maybe ask in the math section?
alright, i"ll try.
The bar on top means the numbers on the left of it are significant including the one with the bar . You take the one with the least amount of significant numbers. 214¯00 -> You round the answer at the hundreds. so 46 590 - 21 400 = 25 200 if its for mastering chemistry, i tried it and it worked :)
