You sell t-shirts for a fundraiser. It costs $112 to have the t-shirts made . You make a $98 in sales . What is your profit ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you use 112 to make the shirts you are at negative 112 ....then the profit would be added to that. So it would be -112 + 98 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-14?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct...Btw that is quite a strange profit...and always make sure to put on the end what it is .. -14 dollars

It is a math question from my homework.

You begin a hike in death Valley California at an elevation of -86 m. You hike to a point of elevation at 45 m. What is your change in elevation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This time it would be starting at -86 and you climb to positive 45. Think of a number line|dw:1378087565445:dw| from -86 to 0 is 86 units of change ...and from 0 to 45 is 45 units of change..add them together

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Add 86 by 45?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

86 and 45 together ...becase you are counting how much change there was . so signs don't matter here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

86 + 45 = 131
