Your job requires you to attend meetings at other campus locations which are within 50 miles. You are reimbursed at the rate of $0.51 per mile for this travel. Q: Write a verbal statement that describes how the amount of reimbursement is determined.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Have you started this problem yet? Do you understand what they are asking?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no I haven't.. and not really.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It seems they want you to put the amount of reimbursement into words.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I know but I don't know what to put

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you understand how the reimbursement in this problem is calculated? If you travel 22 miles for meetings, how much will you be reimbursed? @glitterythings

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what I don't understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would I calculate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. What does the problem say about the amount reimbursed? It says it is $0.51 per mile, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, if you go 22 miles, how much would that be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm I don't know.. ahhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to calculate it you would do: 0.51x22=11.22 You just multiply the number of miles traveled to the meetings by $0.51 to get the amount reimbursed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question is asking you to describe how you get this answer. You multiplied, right? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the miles is 50 so it would be 0.51 x 50 = 10.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yess! it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe that is all they are asking for here, I hope you understand this now. [: Good luck with your studies! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also, It says the meetings are all within 50 miles. It does not say you travel 50 miles. [:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks ! but if it says identify the input variable of the function it would be 50 miles right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and ohhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To determine the reimbursement, you must add up all your mileage travelling to these meetings, and multiply by $0.51. The input would be the amount traveled. The output would be the reimbursement. Given the amount traveled (in our example 22) you compute the reimbursement (in our example $11.22)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't see where it says identify the input variable. Was there more to this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes theres more.. hah
