7|x+3|=42

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 3 or -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

after dividing both sides by 7 \[\left| x + 3 \right| = 6\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in order to get rid of the absolute value we seperate into 2 cases... (x+3) and -(x+3) setting both of these equal to 6 we get \[x+3 = 6 \]\[-(x+3) = 6\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solving both of these you get x = 3 or x=-9

thanks
