can someone answer this quick question, i am having a brain bubble.... for 2(5x-4)^2 would you foil 5x-4 thennn multiply it by 2 or should i multiply thennn foil?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"foil" first order 'o operations say exponents first, multiplication second

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2(5x-4)(5x-4)\]in other words

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i would take (10x^2-20x-20x+16) and multiply it by two to get 20x^2+80x+32?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, except that that is not correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first term is wrong since \(5x\times 5x=25x^2\) and not \(10x^2\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahah oooops. 5 x 5 is 25....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah hahah. ooopsie. but thank you so much!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also the middle term should be \(-80x\) not \(+80x\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! ((:
