How do I cite references in a dissertation thesis? Can I use endnotes, or should I use the "insert citation" function in Microsoft Word? Should references be at the end of each chapter or at the end of the dissertation?
First off, is it a dissertation or a thesis? There are technical difference depending on where you are at. Second, have you been told to follow a specific format? If writing in APA or MLA format, the citation system is predetermined for you. If not given a format, then you can use whatever you desire... but it is probably better to follow a format to be safe!
This is a dissertation. I haven't been told to follow a specific format. Thanks for your advice:)
Looks like many schools have a format guide. Might want to see if yous does: http://www.poetryarchive.org/poetryarchive/glossaryItem.do?id=8091
For example, the one from Northwestern says, "The format for references must conform to the guidelines in an approved style manual." which is what I pointed out. But yours might say something else.
