the length of a rectangle is 2x-3 feet, and the width is 5 feet. what is the area of the rectangle in square feet?

To get the area you have to multiply the width times the length. It doesn't make a difference that the length contains a variable, you would just have to leave an x in your answer unless they gave you a set area to compare to. At any rate, your answer would come from 5 (2x-3) or simplified 10x-15.
