what is the measure of each angle of a hexagon?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

That would depend on the hexagon (regular or otherwise?) and on which angle you are talking about (interior or exterior). Please provide a better or more complete question and then supply your best efforts at a solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry, a regular and I'm assuming they mean exterior.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would you work that out? if you could teach me that ome.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A hexagon has six and the question says each side is 5cm in . So I think you take 6 and multiply by 5 am I on the right path?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

There are fancy formulas for the measure of interior angles, but I never cared about those. The exterior angles are so easy, there really is no need to worry about the interior ones. I remember two rules: 1) The sum of the EXTERIOR angles of a closed polygon is 360º. This should be made obvious by following a turtle around the perimeter. How many degrees must our turtle friend turn on order to get back where it started? 360º!! Every time. Never fails. Doesn't even matter if it's convex. (No crossing over, though. Just the perimeter.) 2) Interior angles are supplementary to exterior angles. Or, if you wish, they form a linear pair with their corresponding exterior angles. So, Regular Hexagon? That's six equal exterior angles to manage 360º. 360º / 6 = 60º Done. This is the measure of each of the six exterior angles of a regular hexagon. Internal? 180º - 60º = 120º Done. All interior angles of a regular hexagon measure 120º.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

If we are looking for the perimeter, then yes, 5 cm * 6 = 30 cm.
