Help with brain functions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to fill in the blanks with the part of the brain that would match the scenario. 1. Greg gained 40 pounds in one month. Doctors found damage in his ________________. 2. Jasper’s heart had stopped beating and he could not control his breathing. He had been shot in the _________________ and was pronounced dead at the hospital. 3. For the last 10 years of her life, Jenny did not sleep. The autopsy found that she had structural damage to her _________________. 4. Jill’s sensory information is being misdirected to the wrong parts of her brain. Doctors believe that her ________________ has been damaged. 5. After a car accident, Sarah became unable to control her anger. She would become aggressive and yell at people with little or no provocation. It was determined that she had damage to her _________________. 6. Sobriety tests such as walking a straight line are testing to see whether alcohol has reached your ___________________.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

in the first one. it must be the hypothalamus.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I a doing online school. The website has not been functioning properly. I can't get a hold of any of my teachers. I didn't learn anything in the lesson because there was nothing in the lesson. I'm not trying to make you do all of my work, but can you guys explain to me what these things are?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

hypothalamus has pituitary gland which is responsible for secreting hormone responsible for weight gain or loss. eg tsh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, that makes sense, I understand that now

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

see basically our brain is divided into different lobes. these lobes have various functions. if damage occurs to a part of brain then only a particular function is affected.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

i can give you the gist about which lobe has what function. but you need to go and read about this in detail.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, that would be excellent. And once I can get a hold of someone about this problem with the website, I will go in and read more about it

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

parietal lobe-stimuli of pain touch temperature temporal-hearing taste smell occipital- vision frontal- intelligence personality motor responses.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

medulla oblongata-cardiac centre respiratory centre vasomotor centre reflex centre cerebellum-body balance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would #2 be the "medulla oblongata"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@shrutipande9 ?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome! But what about the third one? She couldn't sleep for 10 years

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

that would be pons and medulla again...all the vital functions are governedd by medulla oblongata

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is "pons"?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

it is a part of the hind brain. hind brain is made up of pons varoli, medulla oblongata, and cerebellum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would #4 be the occipital lobe? because it deals with vision?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

it does not specify vision

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

it would be medulla again because medulla is main path for conducting impulses to brain through spinal cord.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, that makes sense. What about the last one. I think that the fifth is Frontal Lobe. but what aboout the last question.

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

what are the effects of alcohol consumption?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First thing to go is the vision, then your sense of judgement

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

and?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't quite remember the last one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

was it sense dictation?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

and loss of balance....body balance

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So damage to the cerebellum ?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

not damage exactly...but you got the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome! thank you so much!

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ur welcome.....but do read about this later on:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will!
