Which one of the following equations is parallel to y=-2x+1 and passes through (1,6) a) -2x+y=8 b) 2x+y=8 c) -2x-y=8 d) 2x-y=8

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

what's the slope of y=-2x+1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know.How do i find out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2/1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jdoe0001 im guessing the answer is A

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, any parallel line to that equation, will also have the same slope, so we know it has a slope of -2 we also know that it passes through the point (1,6) so using the point-slope intercept form, that is \(\Large y-y_1=m(x-x_1)\) plug your values in it keep in mind that m = -2 \(\bf (x_1, y_1) = (1, 6)\)

Thanks
