At the instant the traffic light turns green, a car that has been waiting at an intersection starts ahead with a constant acceleration of 3.00m/s2 . At the same instant a truck, traveling with a constant speed of 16.0m/s , overtakes and passes the car. How far beyond its starting point does the car overtake the truck? How fast is the car traveling when it overtakes the truck?

Here's a very similar question I just answered a few days ago...it should give you a prtty good idea on how to do these.

I got the first question with ease, but how do you figure out how fast the car is traveling when it overtakes the truck. im confused on that part

OpenStudy (shane_b):

You can use:\[\large V_f^2=V_i^2+2ad\]and solve for Vf. Or, since you've probably already calculated the time, you can use:\[\large V_f=V_i+at\]
