i think minor character, these are characters that interacts with the protagonist. Without them, the protagonist can't meet other characters and the story will be told with only one person living in the world. With other minor characters, the story can move a long and be interested to read. Also, characterization can be the answer too. Characterization is the art of creating characters for a narrative, including the process of conveying information about them. With this, you can add multiple event that helps the story to move along.
