Can someone tell me what this means in relation to the element named calcium. The names of this atom and ion are the same or different. If different, write the name of the ion in the space provided.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer in my book is the same but I am not sure why.

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Some ions are given suffixes, like "fluoride ion" \(F^-\) or "chloride ion" \(Cl^-\). Calcium isn't one of them. Read more about them here: http://chemed.chem.purdue.edu/genchem/topicreview/bp/ch2/names.html

Thanks!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

No problem !
