Simplify the following: 8^2/8^5 For all exponents, a^n/a^m = a^(n-m). Apply this to 8^2/8^5. Combine powers. 8^2/8^5 = 8^(2-5): 8^2-5 Subtract 5 from 2. 2-5 = -3: 8^-3 In order to evaluate 8^3 express 8^3 as 8×8^2. 8^3 = 8×8^2: 1/(8×8^2) Evaluate 8^2. 8^2 = 64: 1/(8×64) Multiply 8 and 64 together. 8×64 = 512: Answer: | | 1/512
