x+y=8 -2x+y=-1

OpenStudy (megannicole51):

x+y=8 -y -y x=8-y then plug in x into the second equation -2(8-y)+y=-1 -16+2y+y=-1 -16+3y=-1 +16 +16 3y=15 y=5 then plug in y into the first equation and solve for x x+5=8 -5 -5 x=3
