Does the length of a cycle influence its importance to ecology? For example, the carbon cycle right now seems to be overloaded with the carbon dioxide humans are putting into the air. Does the fact that the carbon cycle takes only a few years to run make fixing the greenhouse gas problem more or less urgent than soil erosion or earthquake prediction, which are problems concerning the rock cycle?
