satellite73 can you please help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

depends on the question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The conical hat shown here is a traditional sun-protective straw hat originating in eastern Asia. What is the approximate outer surface area of one of these hats that has a radius of 9 inches and a slant height of twelve inches? Keep in mind that there is an opening in the hat where the base surface would normally be. Show the steps of your solution and explain your work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you able to answer it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure i need to google the surface area of a cone first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

apparently it is \[S=\pi rs +\pi r^2\] but the \(\pi r^2\) part is for the circle which you are told to ignore, so only \(\pi r s\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in your case \(r=9,s=12\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think your supposed to use pie in this question because i think the hat is a cone
