A rectangle has sides of length 6.1 cm and 8.1 cm correct to 1 decimal place. Calculate the upper bound for the area of the rectangle as accurately as possible.

OpenStudy (atlas):

You can find the area of rectangle in the normal way you do : L X B Take care that the answer cannot have more significant figures than your measurement (here measurement are 6.1 and 8.1)

OpenStudy (atlas):

So you will have to round off the extra digits you get from your answer..........>>Tell me when you get the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plz solve this question

OpenStudy (atlas):

ok if you use your calculator : Area of rectangle will be 6.1*8.1 = 49.41 sq. cm But both your measurements have only two significant digits (6.1 and 8.1). So the answer cannot have more than two significant digits. so the answer is 49 (we round off the extra digits)
