find range of x^2-16 on domain -5≤ x≤ 6

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Do you know what \(\Large y=x^2-16\) looks like? e.g., what kind of graph does it have, and some basic properties of the graph?

OpenStudy (debbieg):

To find the range on a restricted domain, you really just need the minimum function value over that part of the domain, and the max value over that part of the domain. If you understand the basic shape of the graph, the minimum function value should be obvious. :) The max is less obvious, but WHERE the max will occur is obvious - so just plug in the value of x that gives you that max value, and find the y. That gives you the min, and the max, hence the range.

Thanks!

you're welcome. :)
