OpenStudy (adamconner):

Since Oxygen and Hydrogen are diatomic elements, then why do we write H_2O and not H_2O_2

OpenStudy (aaronq):

\(O_2\;and\;H_2\) do exist in their natural forms as heteronuclear diatomic molecules, but what you wrote are two different things "dihydrogen monoxide" (water), \(H_2O\), and "(di)hydrogen peroxide", \(H_2O_2\).
