A satellite of mass 50kg is put into an orbit with an angular velocity equal to that at which the earth rotates about its axis so that it is always above the same point on the earth.Calculate the Change in kinetic energy of the satellite if it is moved from rest on the earth's surface to its orbit with a radius 4.22*10^7. Can anyone hlp me? Even though the satellite is moving but the earth is moving , do i have to calculate the speed of the satellite on the earth and take it to minus the kinetic energy of satellite on the orbit??
you should find satellites angular velocity which is same both on the earth surface and the orbit. If you want to find its rotational kinetic energy you should calculate its moment of inertia as well. Then you can calculate its rotational kinetic energy by using T=(I*w^2)/2
