A. When solving the system of linear equations 6x+y=1 and 7x+2y=-3 with substitution, it is easiest to first solve the equation __________ for ______. When this is done, ______ is equal to _____. B. What is the solution to the system of linear equations in part A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PFEH.1999 do you know how to do this?

OpenStudy (austinl):

6x+y=1 for y y is equal to -6x+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@austinL is that the solution to the systems?

OpenStudy (austinl):

You should be able to solve that easily on your own by plugging in what we calculated from the first equation into the second equation. Solve for y, and then once you solve for y, you can plug that into one of the original equations and solve for x.

@austinL so for part A what would the blanks be? thats the part that i really dont understand because of the different signs

OpenStudy (austinl):

I answered that in my first post.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am so sorry, i understand what your first post meant now. thank you very much, i really appreciate all of your help. my pre cal class is online and self taught with no textbook and im horrible at math so im trying to understand everything still! Would B be -5x=-5? @austinL

OpenStudy (austinl):

x=1, correct. Then you plug x=1 into one of the original equations and then solve for y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would the answer to B be x=1 and y=-5? like as the final answer? @austinL

OpenStudy (austinl):

Correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much @austinL ! you're awesome!!

OpenStudy (austinl):

No problemo!
