9+4(x+1)=25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first use PEMDAS aka order of operations distribute the 4(x+1) now you have 9+4x+4=25 then add like terms on the left side (9+4) now you have: 13+4x=25 then move the 13 to the other side by subtracting it from the left side now you have 4x=25 then divide by 4 and your answer is? (25/4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

formally you would write x=(25/4)

x=6.25 ???

first use PEMDAS aka order of operations distribute the 4(x+1) now you have 9+4x+4=25 then add like terms on the left side (9+4) now you have: 13+4x=25 then move the 13 to the other side by subtracting it from the left side now you have 4x=12 then divide by 4 and your answer is? 3 x=3 (My first answer was wrong because I forgot to subtract the 13 on both sides) *if you ever are unsure about an answer to a problem simply plug in the answer for x and see if both sides equal the same number
