Solve each inequality A.) 3x+536 C.) 6(x+5)>11x D.) 5(x+8)-6>44 I don't think I am even close to figuring any of these out :/

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

solving inequalities is just like solving equations the only difference is that the sign will flip if you multiply or divide both sides by a negative number

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'll do A to get you started

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

3x+5 < x+17 3x+5-5 < x+17-5 ... Subtract 5 from both sides. 3x < x+12 3x-x < x+12-x ... Subtract x from both sides. 2x < 12 2x/2 < 12/2 ... Divide both sides by 2. 1x/1 < 6 1x < 6 x < 6

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hopefully that makes sense and you can apply it to the others

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That does thank you. I just wasn't sure which side to start from. Not a fan of these things. But it makes sense now!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you'll get used to them after a while if you practice practice practice and if you can solve equations, then you can definitely solve inequalities

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so true! I need that extra practice. Thank you for getting me started!!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome, glad to be of help
