PLEASE HELP! (Image attached)

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

I tried figuring out the perimeters but I don't know how to find x or do #25

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

Am I supposed to add an =0 to both perimeters? 6x+2=0 4x+8=0

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

perimeter of first pool = 2(2+x + 2x-1) = 2(3x+1) = 6x+2

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

perimeter of second pool = 2(x+2+x+2) = 2(2x+4) = 4x+8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

read the q once, it says, perimeters are equal eh ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so... lets set them equal 6x+2 = 4x+8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

can u solve x ?

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

Oh oops x=3

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes, next find perimeter of pools also

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

Ok so they're both 20

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

Can you help me with #25?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

try to form an equation

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

product of 3 and the sum of a number and 5 3(x+5)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

then added to 6 3(x+5) + 6

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

is the same as 3(x+5) + 6 =

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

the same as the product of 2 3(x+5)+6=-2(x-3)-5 ?

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

Would that be correct?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

careful about how it was worded, it says difference of the same number \(from\) 3

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

it doesnt say, difference of same number and 3 since, it says from 3, we must subtract x from 3

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

3(x+5)+6=-2(3-x)-5

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

ohh

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

So the answer would be x=-32?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yup !

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

Ok :)
